So, once again, I find myself very close to finishing my enlistment. The new batteries are in. I visited a new-to-me camping spot in the desert… It’s finally starting to cool off here.
The Edgestar DC fridge one of the most reasonably priced units in its class on the market. They’re really a terrific deal if you can catch one open box or scratch and dent on Compact Appliance. Although they are called “fridge/freezers”, they have a single internal compartment and can only be used as one or the other at once. Thus, I am adding a second 86qt unit. Both will be run 24/7 by the PV system.
More house batteries. Picked up four Interstate GC2-XHD’s from Ace Alternator in Yucca Valley. New bank is 24v and 232 amp hours.
So far, I have one panel mounted over the westy top. The second will mount over the cab, but I have yet to weld up a rack to hold it. The panels weigh about 20Kg each, which is definitely noticeable when opening the pop top. I may add some gas pistons to make roof operation easier.
Does anyone recognize what these custom mounts used to be?
My other rig. No, not the van.
A little extra security.
Not a bad pattern at 15 meters.
One thing about the mog, it seems to get upset if you spend too much time on paved surfaces. It will then show its anger by being cantankerous.
That’s all for now, but stay tuned for tire carriers, welding, motorized bicycles, and other shenanigans.
The first panel is mounted. FedEx is bringing my mc4 cables.
Solar panels and charge control arrive tomorrow.
Hello everyone, not much here now but stay tuned: New content is coming soon. The Mog is about to get a 460 watt PV system, on board air, and a homemade DC genset.
